The Mayor of Katowice City. Elected Councillor of the Katowice City Council in 1990.In the years 1994-1998 he performed the function of the Deputy Mayor of Katowice and he was responsible especially for public utilities and for new road investments in the city. He has been the Mayor of Katowice since November 1998. Under the Mayor’s leadership, Katowice as a candidate city for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016 has qualified for the second round.

Additionally, from 1999 to 2002 he performed the duty of the President of the Polish Cities Association, he has also been a member of the Joint Commission of the Government and the Territorial Self-Government as well as the Secretary of the Standing Polish Delegation to the Congress of the Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. From 2002 to 2007 he was the President of the Board of the Union of Polish Metropolises and since 2007 – Secretary of the Board.

Piotr Uszok graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Automation and Electronics at the Mining and Metallurgical Academy in Cracow, Poland (in 1980), where he also completed postgraduate studies at the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Machines. Later, from 1990 to 1994 he worked at the “Murcki” Coal-Mine in Katowice.
